The Work
Starts Now.

We connect, support and elevate Black, Brown and Diaspora voices.

People Dem Collective is a registered CIC and community organisation based in Margate, Kent.

Founded by members of the Black, Brown and Diaspora communities; people of cultural heritage other than the place they were born.

The collective was born out of a lived experience of lack of space, engagement and inclusion for these communities and a desire to encourage healing and transformation.

People Dem, is a Patois term colloquially meaning ‘them’.

Displacement is not
Development.

After four transformative years at 49 Marine Terrace, we’ve been given notice to leave by January 2025.

This space has been more than just a building—it has been a vital hub for Black, Brown, and Diaspora communities to connect, create, and thrive. Despite promises of support through the Margate Town Deal, the resources and opportunities pledged to us never materialised, leaving us fighting for survival while developers and corporate interests benefit.

This is not just about losing a space—it’s about systemic injustices and the marginalisation of grassroots organisations. We’re calling for reflection, solidarity, and action to ensure our community’s future.

Read the full blogpost to learn how you can support us in securing a new space and holding systems accountable. Together, it is possible to build a more equitable Margate.
